How do I get the Windows license refund from HP?

I will be installing Ubuntu with the Live CD that I have. I really don’t have a need for Windows at this point. Yes not even a dual boot option. I have read stories of a few people getting the Windows license refund from Dell but nothing from HP. I am not sure on what to ship back. Since my friend also bought a HP desktop computer came to his house without a CD. He needed Windows due to his working from home but I don’t.

I do know you can’t turn on the computer. But without the CD in this case a recovery CD not sure what I need to return to HP in order to receive the refund.

What I would like to do with the refund if I am able to get it is to donate it to some charity. Not sure which one though. So many good ones to choose from.

Hope someone here can help me with this.

Now i know what your thinking… But this thread was not started or has anything to do with piracy. So don’t even try it!!!

Story:
A year ago i setup a windows media 2005 pc. I just got a new 32 inch flat panel samsung hdtv. Loving it btw. Anyway, i have a small collection of dvd’s (178 of them). I do not have a dvd changer for all my dvd’s and i have seen that people rip dvd’s down to like 700 megs.

Question:

How would i rip a dvd to a 700 meg avi file? I would like to load all my dvd’s on a 300 gig hd i have. So when i wanna watch a movie i goto my mce addon for dvd’s and just select the movie and it plays right from the computer. Hence no finding the dvd and being really fat and lazy.

I will buy whatever program(s) can do this task for me. Can anyone recommend how to do this, in a least step process because i would have to do it 178 times.
